Tech Tip

At the last ProZ.com Conference in December, I attended an excellent mind-mapping training run by Soren Ellegard.

I recommend reading up on the technique before using any software, but once you feel ready, here are two versions you can try out (one free, the other not so free!):

We were very happy to have had the opportunity to work with Aeden Films in the last half of 2009. We translated two movie scenarios, one based on the French comic book Le Janitor and the other a remake of the classic French film, The Devil's Hand. Hopefully, these movies will be coming soon to a theater near you...

Happy New Year!

Wishing you a very happy new year--may it be filled with peace, happiness, friendship, prosperity, laughter, and love...

Picture of John Di Rico and a motorcycle street paintingApex Traduction will be kicking off the new decade by undergoing a profound mutation. Anaïs will be leaving the company to focus on her teaching activities. She was recently hired by the Alliance Française for a full-time position to teach French to foreigners in Nice. Congratulations!

Apex will also be moving its headquarters back to Nice in February. Saint Blaise, our neighbors, and friends will be sorely missed. We'd like to thank you for welcoming us and all the happy times we've shared.

In other news, we've launched a new website for our training activities: www.wordfast.fr. It is simple for right now but will be developed in the near future so stay tuned.

Finally, if you didn't see it already, John made headline news during the ATA's 50th annaul translation conference in New York City. Check out the article in the LA Times.

Yours for a little while longer in Saint Blaise,

Anaïs et John Di Rico, Apex Traduction

You can save lives

Did you know that in Sub-Saharan Africa, malaria is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 5, killing one child every 30 seconds and nearly 800,000 children per year?

Malaria kills. Send a net. Save a life. While mostly under control elsewhere in the world, malaria is still pandemic in Africa, accounting for 40% of the continent's health expenditures and costing the continent upwards of $12 billion in lost productivity.

The Junior Chamber International has set a goal to raise $10 million and purchase 1 million life-saving bednets. This action will help the United Nations reach its Millenium Development Goal to have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases.

As a member of JCI, I've decided to take action and have set my own goal of raising $20,000 by this time next year. This represents 1/500th of JCI's overall goal.

How am I going to do this? I'll tell you in the next issue of ExTra!, but in the meantime, you can save a life today, right now, by purchasing a bednet for $10. Just click it!

To thank you, I'll mention your name, company name, and/or website in the next issue of ExTra! Feel free to post a message on my Nothing but Nets fund-raising page as well.
